ARE YOUR CHILDREN READY FOR THE NEXT STEP IN THEIR SWIMMING?

Sunfish swimmers range from 5 year olds (at coaches discretion) who are completely new to technical swimming, to teenagers who have swam competitively for many years. All swimmers train throughout the year but ONLY compete in the Summer Program for freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, individual medley, and relay events. Training emphasis is placed on building endurance and strength, developing good technique, preparing for races, and developing the confidence necessary to perform well and have fun at swim meets.

Participants are organized into practice groups where they focus on refining their competitive strokes, starts, and turns. Assignment of swimmers to practice groups, especially during the summer, is determined by age and ability with the goal of having swimmers of similar age and ability practice which each other. The Sunfish encourages training for competition as well as cross-training and conditioning for other sports.

At the start of the summer season, experienced swimmers can work with their coach to devise an individual training plan that helps them meet their individual goals and objectives. Each swimmer’s plan outlines the number of practices the swimmer intends to participate in each week, which areas of their development they intend to focus on, as well as a strategy to integrate the swim training with the other sports and activities that the swimmer enjoys.

The Sunfish are a team. To get the most out of the Club, speed swimmers are encouraged to participate in competitions throughout the summer season and to attend club social events.
