…the mighty, mighty Sunfish!
Since 1970, the North Delta Sunfish has been operating as a non-profit, parent-run summer swim club geared to swimmers ages 6 to 18. Swimmers train out of both the North Delta Outdoor Pool and Sungod Recreation Centre from May 1 – August 20.
Children and youth are introduced to racing in a fun, team environment, and work on improving personal best times. Coaches provide group and individual instruction focussed on improving stroke technique and endurance. Swimmers attend several practices each week and our club participates in 12 meets per season. Other social and training events take place as well. The club also offers water polo, synchronized swimming, parent swimming, and fall/winter maintenance.

New Member Information
Who can sign up for Sunfish Swim Club?
• All levels of swimmers can participate. Swimmers are grouped according to ability and age
• Parental involvement is required (a fundraising deposit of $100 can be recouped by participating in fundraising activities; and the Club requests 20 hours of volunteerism per season, per family)
• Summer swimming is a shorter season than winter, allowing children to participate in other sports throughout the year. (The level of competition can be just as high as winter swimming, but requires high levels of involvement because of the shortened season)
• The program fee includes the cost of meets, swimming, water polo and/or synchronized swimming
• You can choose what your child participates in; there is no obligation to attend events, practices, and social events (although attendance is encouraged)
• The coaches will work with the children so they feel good about competing. Most children enjoy the meets after they see their times improving
• The meets are designed to reward all swimmers. There are Development Meets for new swimmers so they will be competing against those with similar abilities. Beginning swimmers are classed as B swimmers and ranked accordingly (receiving prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. based on this level) and then once they receive faster times, can move up and compete in the A category
• Sunfish swimmers consistently place highly in the BCSSA Regional and Provincial Championships.

Fees
Your basic fee covers the aquatic activities provided by the North Delta Sunfish Swim Club. Your child can choose to competitively swim, or attend synchronized swimming* or water polo! The Sunfish registration fee covers practices, all meets/tournaments, and both the BC Summer Swimming Association membership fee and the Fraser South Region membership fee. Our registration fee, unlike some of the other summer swim clubs, includes all swim meet entry fees so you will not have to pay extra for each swim meet your child participates in. We do not pro-rate fees as we require a commitment for the full season.
*Please note that Synchronized Swimming may incur more costs for competitive suits. Please see the Coach for more information about this.

Fundraising
The fundraising fee of $100 per swimmer (or $200 maximum per family) can be earned back throughout the season by participating in fundraising activities. If you would prefer not to fundraise, you can forfeit the deposit.
Fundraisers include:
– Two Bottle Drives
– Purdy's Chocolate and Meat/Bakery Orders
– Pub Night and other social events
Volunteering
The success of the Club depends on each family volunteering a minimum of 20 hours throughout the swim season. This commitment is required to run Club activities and also plays an essential role in ensuring that we receive a BC Gaming Grant (which in the past has supported up to 25% of the Club’s operations). While this may seem like a significant commitment, it may be a question of lending a hand at meets and social events that you’re at with your child already.
In 2018 there has been the addition of a Volunteering Fee. Please see our Summer Fee Schedule for amounts per athlete.
Suggested volunteer activities for new families include: timing at meets; concession, group parent, runner, security, food preparation, marshalling at the Sunfish meet; and supporting social and fundraising activities. (Guidance will be provided to you by committee members so that you will be able to do these tasks easily).
