Annual awards
Annual awards are presented at the AGM & Awards Dinner. Club trophies, awards and plaques are available to all club swimmers. Additional eligibility and criteria particular to each award is detailed below. Please contact the Awards Director with any questions.
Water Polo Awards
Honoring the exceptional players who have demonstrated outstanding skills, dedication, and sportsmanship throughout the season. These awards are selected by the Coaches for each age group (10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, OCat 1, OCat2) in the following categories: 1. Most Valuable Player: The Most Valuable Player award is presented to the player who has made the most significant impact on their water polo team. 2. Most Improved Player: The Most Improved Player award is presented to the player who has made the most significant impact on their water polo team. 3. Hardest Worker: The Hardest Worker player goes to the player who embodies relentless effort and determination. |
BEST TIME MEDALS
Best Time Medals recognize swimmers for their personal bests achieved throughout the summer swimming season. This includes improvements made during regular season meets as well as championships. Swimmers receive credit for every instance where they achieve a personal best time, including times recorded in heats and finals. |

MOST IMPROVED AWARDS
The Most Improved Awards are designed to honor those who have made the most significant strides in their performance, achieving the highest number of best times up to and including the Regional competitions. Awards:

“B” AGGREGATE WINNERS
“B” Aggregate Awards recognizes our young swimmers who not only achieved “B” designated regional times, but also earned the most points for their races throughout the season in their division. *Up to Division 4 only. “A” AGGREGATE WINNERS "A" Aggregate Awards recognizes our exceptional swimmers who have achieved the highest points across all swim meets in their Division, showcasing their outstanding performance and consistency. |
GRAND AGGREGATE WINNER
The Grand Aggregate Award is the pinnacle of our recognition, honoring the swimmer who has accumulated the highest number of “A” points across all meets of the season, up to and including the provincial championships. This prestigious award is reserved for the swimmer who has demonstrated exceptional performance and consistency throughout the entire season. To win the Grand Aggregate Award, a swimmer must not only excel at individual meets but also sustain high-level performances across every event, culminating in an outstanding overall score. |

Kelly Franks Award
Kelly Franks, born on April 9, 1958, and passed away on June 24, 1998, was a distinguished swimmer and coach whose legacy continues to inspire the swimming community. An SFU swim alumnus, Kelly competed on the swim team from 1976 to 1980 and was an integral part of five NAIA Champion men's teams. After his competitive swimming career, Kelly made significant contributions as a coach, particularly with the North Delta Sunfish, where his dedication and leadership left a lasting impact. Kelly Franks once said, “People join swim clubs to see how good a swimmer they can become. Racing is where you help each other go faster.” This philosophy underscores the spirit of the Kelly Frank Award, which is named in his honor to celebrate those who embody his passion for the sport and commitment to fostering a supportive swimming environment. |
Criteria for Selection:
Passion for the Sport: Displays an enduring enthusiasm and love for swimming, evident in their dedication during practices and competitions. Commitment to the Club: Shows a deep loyalty to the club by actively participating, supporting teammates, and contributing positively to the team’s success. Promotion of Competitive Swimming: Actively works to promote and improve competitive swimming, whether through mentoring, community involvement, or supporting the growth of the sport. |
Bernard Grempel Spirit Award
The Bernie’s Spirit Award is established to honor the memory of Bernard Grempel, a coach renowned for his unwavering belief in every swimmer, his relentless motivation, and his vibrant spirit. This award is designed to recognize a coach who exemplifies the same qualities of inspiration, motivation, and spirited enthusiasm that Bernie brought to the swim club.
